Dell has come out with yet another Inspiron notebook to add to their very large line of laptops. This time around it is the Dell Inspiron Mini 12. It is very similar to Dell’s Inspiron Mini 9 except it comes with a 12 inch screen instead of a 9 inch and it also comes with a much needed performance upgrade.
Here is a quick spec list:
Price: $549 (recommended config $600 )
Screen Size: 12 inches (1280 x 800)
Intel Atom Processor 1.33GHz
3 Cell Battery (3 Hours of Life) *Also a 6 cell Upgrade
40GB PATA Hard Drive (4200RPM)
1 GB DDR2 RAM 533MHz
Vista Operating System
As you can see the specs are not too great, but they are pretty good for a budget portable laptop. The laptop makes up for the specs by offering a very reasonable price tag of only $500 and it comes with a larger keyboard than most mini netbooks. The notebook is also very portable. Weighing in at only 2.72 pounds and being only .92 inches thick makes this netbook compete with rivals in both weight and thickness. This notebook is perfect for any business person on the go that wants a notebook that’s not too big to carry around easily, but not so small that it is difficult type on. I feel that with the Inspiron Mini 12, Dell has finally found a sweet spot between the Inspiron Mini 9 and their normal sized Inspiron Laptops.

The laptop world is closing in on what I think is the sweet spot. We've had screen sizes from over 20" down to 13, then the netbooks came in at 7" up to 10". Finally we're starting to see these 12" models.
I already have a powerful desktop for my heavy lifting. I want a small, light laptop for everyday work that isn't for gaming, video editing, or large storage. The netbooks all have one drawback for me - less than full sized keyboards. The larger laptops are too expensive, heavy, large, and have poor battery life.
My minimum sweet spot looks something like this:
-1.2GHz processor
-40G storage
-1G RAM
-12" screen 1024 x 768
-Windows XP
-Bluetooth
-Camera
-Speakers
-Microphone
-2 USB
-WiFi
-3 lbs
-4 hours battery life
- SD card reader
$600
This Dell Mini 12 comes very close to my desired laptop and I'm very glad to see it enter the market.
